Living, green roof for future building projects

A green roof consists primarily of hardy sedum plants. Sedum, also known as stonecrop, is well suited for green roofs because it is resistant to the harsh conditions on roofs: sun, wind, frost and dry periods.

A green roof has many benefits compared with a traditional roof. Sedum roofs protect the underlying roof, and keep themselves beautiful for many years with minimal maintenance. Moreover, a green roof retains as much as 50% of the rainwater, which eases the pressure on the sewage system. With climate change and increased precipitation, it is vital to incorporate local drainage of waste water into future construction – the ability of sedum roofs to absorb and delay large volumes of water may be part of the solution.

In addition, sedum plants in the living roof absorb CO2 and increase the oxygen content in the air, and they also provide food for insects and strengthen biodiversity in urban environments. So a sedum roof is not just a beautiful, green roof solution – sedum roofs are also a good choice for biodiversity, the climate and the environment. Innovative and economical system solution for sedum roofs

Nature Impact have developed an innovative system of having the sedum roof in trays, where you get drainage, growth media and plants in one combined package. The unique tray system can be laid out significantly more quickly than traditional green roofs, which makes the Nature Impact Roof a cost-effective solution for a green roof project.

We create our systems from scratch together with leading specialists in roof covering, drainage, statistics and safety requirements for modern construction. We cultivate our own sedum from mother plants, which are specially selected for the changeable Nordic climate – this ensures a high level of quality and a beautiful green roof year after year.

Laying a green roof

With Nature Impact’s green roofs, a professional roofer can lay a sedum roof at a rate of 25-40 square metres an hour. Our horticulturalists select sedum trays from the same batch, so the plants in the finished sedum roof are those in the intended project. Then they are packed onto pallets, and made ready for the building site. On delivery, the trays are ready to be laid directly onto the roof, and your sedum roof is laid quickly and efficiently on a watertight membrane, for example, roofing felt.

The trays have roots visibly protruding over the tray edge, and are placed close together with soil-to-soil contact. In this way the plants quickly grow together to form one coherent surface of sedum without any visible joints, and with strong protection against gusts of wind on the roof.

Accessories for sedum roofs

In cooperation with Jual, we have developed all the accessories you need for your green roof. Support profiles and edge profiles come in stainless steel, sea-water-resistant aluminium and black-lacquered aluminium. Support profiles are not necessary on a flat roof, but prevent plants from sliding over time if the roof slopes more than 15 degrees. We recommend edge profiles on all roofs, except for flat roofs with fascia boards or capping. Contact us if you have any questions about accessories for sedum roofs.
